iFLT and Fluency Matters care about the health and wellbeing of our colleagues and have been carefully following the guidelines provided by various health organizations. We have been monitoring Los Angeles County Department of Health and CSU-LB’s response to COVID-19. We have also been in communication with university officials. Although there have been no suspected or confirmed cases on the CSU-LB campus, like most educational institutions across the country, the campus is closed for the rest of the semester and until further notice.
With the Executive Order from the State of CA “UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE” (found here: https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/3.19.20-attested-EO-N-33-20-COVID-19-HEALTH-ORDER.pdf ), and the Presidential Major Disaster Declaration to Support California’s COVID-19 Emergency Response: (https://www.gov.ca.gov/2020/03/22/california-secures-presidential-major-disaster-declaration-to-support-states-covid-19-emergency-response/), and the CDC predictions of the spread of the virus, we feel that it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel the event.
Although it is impossible to predict what will happen in July, we feel strongly that it is our social responsibility to consider that CDC and government recommendations for social distancing and ‘shelter in place’ may still be mandated/necessary until June/July. We encourage our colleagues to do the same. With your health and safety in mind, iFLT 2020 is officially canceled.
We hope to see you in 2021. In the meantime, we offer prayers and best wishes for good health and an end to COVID-19.
