Carol Gaab has been providing teacher training in CI-based strategies for (inter)national schools and universities since 1996. A regular presenter at ACTFL, iFLT, NTPRS and many other state, regional and international conferences, Carol was also a presenter for the Bureau of Education and Research for 9 years. In addition to organizing and directing the Multi-cultural and iFLT Conferences, Carol has been teaching ESL and Spanish for various Major League Baseball clubs since 1990, most notably twenty years teaching for and directing the San Francisco Giant’s U.S. and Dominican Programs. The President of TPRS Publishing, Inc. and the founder/president of Fluency Matters, Carol has authored and published a myriad of graded readers and curricula for novice to advanced students, including the Brandon Brown series, Felipe Alou’s sanctioned biography, the true story of Esperanza, Pirates del Caribe and a host of other titles.
Carrie Toth is a master teacher, teaching all levels of Spanish since 1994. A National Board certified teacher in WLOE, Carrie serves as a mentor to National Board candidates and presents at various local, state, regional, and national language conferences. Her passion is helping teachers enhance cultural knowledge in the world language classroom using CI-based strategies and backward planning (through Understanding by Design). Carrie is the 2012 recipient of the Horace Mann “Innovative Education Award,” the 2014 Teacher of Year for both the state of Illinois and the Central States Region, and a finalist for the 2015 National Teacher of the Year. In addition to Carrie’s achievements as a teacher and trainer, she is also an accomplished author. In addition to writing teacher’s guides and ancillary materials, Carrie is also the author of two popular novels, “La Hija del sastre” and “La Calaca Alegre.”
Kristy Placido is an accomplished teacher, presenter and author. She has been teaching Spanish at all levels since 1997 and provides teacher training on a wide range of topics, including TPRS, reading strategies, classroom technology and assessment. Kristy has presented at ACTFL, iFLT, TPRS’s Multi-cultural Conference, NTPRS and numerous other state and regional conferences. In addition to being a regular presenter for TPRS Publishing, Inc., she is a popular author as well, having written numerous graded readers (novels), teacher’s guides, ancillary materials and curricula for all levels. Kristy holds a Masters degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University and is proud to be the co-founder of the more TPRS list.
Cynthia Hitz has been teaching Spanish since 2000 and is currently teaching at Palmyra Area High School in PA. She has presented at state and national conferences on teaching with CI and TPRS in world language classes. In 2016, she was awarded the Teacher Impact Award from WGAL TV, which is an award that recognizes K-12 teachers in south central Pennsylvania who have made a significant difference in the lives of their students. She was instrumental in converting her school’s World Language Department into a department that teaches with TPRS/CI. Sharon Birch has Birch has been teaching Spanish for 37 years, including middle school, high school and college levels. She was named the Wicomico County Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2002 and Wicomico County High School Teacher of the Year in 2012. She has presented nationally, regionally, and locally (state and district).
